  1911 Census Cobden, Renfrew Co., Ontario with parents ...Cobden of the Past Past people profiles - Lt. Col. Dr. Glenn Stewart Burton 1906-1992 Glenn Burton was born in Cobden to parents John Stewart Burton & Elizabeth Ann Ross. His father John was the station agent in Cobden but had also served in Kemptville, Winchester, Almonte, & Renfrew. Glenn's mother Elizabeth Ann Ross was born in Cobden and was the granddaughter of James B. Ross & Elizabeth Scott Galley (pioneers of Ross Twp). Elizabeth's brother was Brigadier General Dr. Arthur Edward Ross who served in WWI. As a child, Glen & his family lived on Gould St. Glenn graduated from Queen's University and specialized in psychiatry. He served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC) and was promoted to Lt. Col. in 1945. He retired from being the superintendent of Homewood Sanitarium, Guelph in 1972, the largest private mental hospital in Canada at the time. He had held this position for 10 years but had been on staff prior to that. He also served as president of the Ontario Psychiatric Association. Glenn and his 2nd wife Vera Totzke are buried in Cobden Union Cemetery.
