      ...Cobden of the Past WWII Casualties
      Beattie Elwood Campbell, son of William Fraser Campbell and Fannie Bilson, was born on 21 Oct 1916 in Forester's Falls, killed in a plane crash on 8 Feb 1943 near Burnstown during a routine navigation flight. The plane crashed on the crest of a hill in McNab Twp. LAC Campbell was 26 years old, and was buried in Cobden Union Cemetery. He was serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Service Number R151136 at No. 9 Air Observer School, St. Johns, Quebec. Beattie was the brother of Dan, William, Cecil, Clifford, Earl and Chester Campbell as well as Elizabeth Harvey, Ida Disley, Etta Manges, and Gertrude Bennett.
