Notes - From Cobden then & Now p. 11:
in 1833, Spencer Allen established a stopping place on the eastern shore of Muskrat Lake, almost directly opposite Muskrat St on the western side. The spot was close to the foot of the present road which runs by the old graveyard and ends at the lake.
He was one of the earliest lumbermen to acquire timber rights closer to Muskrat Lake. He was also one of the directors of Jason Gould's "Horton & Ross Plank and Macadamized Road Company" in 1850.
